Hate incident reporting

A hate incident is any incident perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by the prejudice of someone's:

  • Race, colour, national or ethnic origin
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Disability

Hate incidents cover a wide range of behaviours, including:

  • Verbal abuse
  • Damage to property
  • Harassment
  • Offensive behaviour
  • Offensive telephone calls, text messages, emails or letters

There are a number of ways to report a hate incident. We work closely with North Somerset Council so we ask you to report the incident/crime to North Somerset Council in the first instance. You can do this by telephone on 01934 888801, email at equality@n-somerset.gov.uk or online on the Avon and Somerset Police Hate Incident Reporting Form.
