Funding for local youth club

BBC Children in Need has awarded a grant of  £8,840  to help cover the cost of staff and activities to run a youth club in partnership with Alliance Homes, Avon and Somerset Police and YMCA Somerset Coast.

The weekly club is supported by a number of volunteers from local schools and children’s centres, which aim to provide a safe environment where children and young people can take part in a variety of sessions with others their age and from similar backgrounds.

A six week pilot project ran in October and November last year at Weston Youth Centre, Coleridge Road, and saw up to 40 children aged between nine and 14 years old attending each session.

Speaking of the funding, Victoria Rooke, Project Development Worker at Alliance Homes said: “Some of the young people who attended the pilot for this club had very limited opportunities to interact socially with peers in a positive environment. Thanks to this funding from BBC Children in Need, we will be able to create opportunities for young people to build bridges with others in their community, which will broaden their horizons and change their lives for the better.”
