South West Associations Create New Homes Repairs Service

United Communities (UC) and Alliance Homes Group (AHG) have joined forces to launch the new Home Repairs Service. 9 April sees the two South West Housing Associations setting up a jointly owned new company to deliver a range of repair and maintenance services for customers. Together they will be able to deliver a quality service that is geared to the needs of customers, and also make some significant savings too.

Oona Goldsworthy, CEO of United Communities said: “Setting up the new Home Repairs Service is ‘win win’ for United Communities. We can benefit from access to a wider pool of skilled trades people and can invest in the company knowing that our customers will gain from this investment over the years. It’s definitely a creative alternative to a merger allowing both organisations to retain their identity”

Louise Swain, Chief Executive, Alliance Homes Group added: “As the lead partner in this venture we’re delighted to be working with United Communities. This partnership will further strengthen both organisations and lead to greater benefits for our customers.”

The new business model, which is known as a Cost Sharing Vehicle, has been set up to allow for expansion. In the future other organisations will be able to join Home Repairs Service and benefit from the cost savings and a high quality service. Together UC and AHG will be able to invest in improved digital services for its customers and attract a skilled team of trade people at a time of increasing skill shortages.

As members of the national Placeshapers group, both AHG and UC believe that the ‘Home Repairs Service’ is a good example of the groups We Share priority, demonstrating joint learning and collaboration between housing associations.
